Through His Eyes

Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.Rom.12:2 (MSG) Then you can see things through His eyes.

What's Up With Liberal Christianity? # 3

I read several blogs yesterday written by people who call themselves liberal Christians and were trying to convince themselves they were quite proud of being liberal.

"And if they do cry out and God does not answer, it is because of their pride.
Job 35:12

By definition of liberalism alone, a person is saying he or she is under no guiding authority and is free to decide what is right and what is wrong. There is a major problem with this belief. Only God is in the position to see and know everything, so only God can know what is right and wrong. By claiming to be liberal, one is claiming to be God, or at least on the same level as God. That has been tried before and the guy was banished from heaven and forced to wear a red suit with horns and carry a pitch fork for eternity.

One guy said he worked his way into being a liberal Christian by starting out as a conservative Christian. The comments that followed were by people who were happy that he could be so open about his faith, (or lack of it) and it made them proud to know that he was a liberal Christian also.

There is only one way to go from a Christ-following Christian to liberalism, disobedience.

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, "You are truly my disciples if you keep obeying my teachings. John 8:31

Two things made me chuckle while reading your post, Royal - your description of Satan and the people who were “proud” of the gentleman that had worked his way to liberal Christianity.

Your Satan image made me chuckle because it was funny. Your sentence about the comments on the man converted to liberal Christianity getting kudos made me chuckle at the pure irony.

Seems like the old cliché of ‘misery loves company’ to me. People love to justify their viewpoints, right or wrong, by the viewpoints of others. It's sad.

If being liberal is claiming to be God, isn't being conservative, though, denying the full expression of God?

Sorry... playing both sides of the issue.

The full expression of God in a believer comes when we live a "full life" of obedience in the light as opposed to seeing how far we can live in the dark and still feel ok about it.

I am not the one that said if you are Jesus' disciple you will obey His commandmments. He did...

Also Paul writes, All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. 17 It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do. 2 Tim 3:16-17

Someone who claims to be a liberal Christian believes deciding which part of scripture is truth and which is not is his freedom. (Maybe believing that this is his full expression of God. God calls this expression sin....)

I did not use the word conservative. The person who called himself liberal did. A liberal has to make conservative a bad word in order to feel good about being disobedient.

I would use committed or disciple, or apprentice. Is Jesus Lord or not. If he is than he is.....If He is not....then He is not....
